20 June 2015

Change is uncomfortable- yes, it is uncomfortable at first. the things you used to do with a certain manner suddenly changes and you have no other option except to go with the changes. You work in a place for years and suddenly next morning when you wake up, you find yourself in a whole new place full of strangers, with no one to talk to. All you can do is just sit alone and think-Was the decision of leaving Sanjeevani hospital even right? Was she afraid of confronting Rahul after the proposal? She wasn't afraid...she couldn't be. They both were supposed to be in love, they had a strong relationship, apart from the occasional drinking and once-in-a-week psychotic behavior of Rahul, he was perfect for Vaishali, then why she panicked and ran away when Rahul proposed her for the marriage?
"Is this seat taken?" A voice pulled Vaishali out from the tsunami of thoughts that were destroying her mind. She looked up and saw a young guy, probably 25, smiling at her.
"No." She replied absent-minded. She was still waiting for Rahul to call her. One phone call and it would be solved in a second. One sorry from her would definitely work for their relationship...at least she thought that.
"First day at Heritage?" The guy once again diverted her attention.
"Yes."
"Mine too. Hi I am Dr. Pankaj Rana." He said and took his hand forward.
"Dr. Vaishali Gupta." She replied with an artificial smile pasted on her face and shook hands with him. She just wanted to be left alone for sometime.
"Are you alright?" Pankaj asked her after a brief pause in their almost one-sided conversation. He wasn't genetically programmed to be quiet, he loves to talk regardless of the response from the other side but he wasn't sure that Vaishali was in a mood to talk so he asked her if she was feeling alright or not.
"Yes, I am fine." She replied to Pankaj and gave him a cold stare.
"Are you Sure?"
"Yes, and would you mind leaving me alone please?" She said in an unusually high tone. Pankaj didn't see that coming.
"Umm...of course, I will catch up with you later." as Pankaj was about to vacate his seat, his coffee cup accidentally fell upon the table, spilling the whole coffee on Vaishali's dress, making the scenario more worse than before.
"ARE YOU MAD?? Don't you have eyes? I have my surgery about 30 minutes from now and you spoiled my whole dress. My first day at this hospital and I will be operating on a patient with my body smelling like a coffee cup. Thank you Dr. Pankaj." She blurted it out, all at once. She didn't even give Pankaj a chance to apologize for the mishap that happened.
"I am so sorry Dr. Vaishali, I don't know how it..."
"Keep your apologies with you, I don't need it." Vaishali said and left, without even listening. She was not at her best of moods today and she knew it.
"Maybe I was too harsh on him, he didn't spill the coffee on purpose." She said to herself while she was trying to clean her green kurti and her white coat at the ladies washroom. She certainly overreacted, but when you just resigned from a hospital just because your boyfriend proposed you in front of the whole staff, it's natural to become unstable. She didn't have the guts to call Rahul, so she waited for him to call her but nothing like that was still happening and she started to worry now. What if he never call back? What if leaving Sanjeevani and coming to Heritage was a big mistake? What if this was an end for both of them? Was she ready for all this? Will Rahul understand what she wants from her life? And most importantly, will Rahul forgive her? Vaishali was still fighting with all these questions hitting on her mind until she got disturbed by a loud beep on her pager. It was a message directing her to the OT where she had to operate in about 10 minutes. She quickly rushed towards the OT and saw the schedule chart hanging in front of the OT four of the Heritage hospital.
"Oh God, why don't you kill me?" these were the first words that came out from her mouth when she saw the scheduling chart. She was used to do all her operations with Rahul co-operating and assisting her but now she will be assisting him. The chart said-
'OT FOUR- Dr. VAISHALI GUPTA (ORTHO) Assisting With Dr. PANKAJ RANA (ORTHO)'
Change is uncomfortable...
