BEST FRIENDS FOREVER?? (Part 4)

There is a thing about secrets—it has weight. No matter how much you work out or how strong you are, if you have a secret then it will definitely start crushing you. Ankit had secrets, and a lot of them were enough to destroy the relationship between him and Alia. But is it wrong to keep someone you love away from the flames of your burning life? Is it wrong if you lie to someone to ensure that the truth won’t devastate them? Is it right to keep your best friend in an illusion that she knows everything about you and there is nothing that you can hide?
“What are you thinking?” Ankit’s mother came to him and asked.
“It’s nothing mom.” Ankit replied absent-mindedly.
“Just thinking about it won’t solve the problem son, you know it.”
“So what do you want me to do mom?” Ankit asked his mother, looking for suggestions. At that time he was open to any kind of idea which would make him feel better.
“Tell Alia the truth.”  His mother said and looked at him.
“You know I can’t do that.”
“I don’t see any other way to solve your problem.”
“Some problems are meant to remain unsolved then, I guess.” Ankit replied and chuckled. Her mother scoffed and said-
“You know Ankit, when you were born your father told me that he would make you a perfect person, the person he couldn’t become in his life. He wanted to make you the person with a pure heart, not this kind of person who can’t decide himself that what he is becoming. You think you are protecting Alia from being heartbroken by not telling her the truth, but you are actually making her go away from you.” Ankit’s mother replied.
“Maybe that’s what destiny wants.”
“Maybe that’s what you want.” She said and walked away. Ankit was still thinking about the aftermath of telling Alia the truth about him. He kept thinking about it for a long time and then he drifted off to sleep.
“Which one should I choose?” Alia asked Ankit in a confused tone. They were shopping for her at a mall. It was basically a punishment for Ankit for not calling or texting her for a whole week.
“You look funny whatever you wear.” Ankit replied and chuckled. One thing that Ankit was becoming good at was hiding things that were bothering him.
“Are you Ok?” Alia finally asked Ankit. She was trying to confront him for a long time now but everytime she wanted to do that, something from inside used to tell her that Ankit will find his way out of whatever problem he was facing. But she had given him enough time…probably more than enough.
“What would happen to me? I am fine.” Ankit replied without looking at her eyes. Lying to someone while not looking at their eyes is always an easy way, but it is often the most obvious way to find out for others that you are telling a lie and if that is a person with whom you share your tiniest details, it don’t take much time.
“I can wait for the time till you realize that I won’t buy any of this ‘I am fine’ crap and then you could tell me the truth or we could skip the whole waiting part.” Alia said to him. Ankit could not resist but shaking his head in a happy disappointment. In planning to not tell Alia the truth he completely overlooked the fact that she was the only person in the world who knew him better than she knew her name. She definitely deserved to know the truth.
“Are you going to tell me Ankit?” Alia held his hand and said to him.
“If I told you, the things will never be the same Alia.”
“Everything is dynamic baby, everything is changing. But one thing that I assure you will not change is my love for you. It is going to be the same forever.”
“I highly doubt that.”
“There is only one way to find out.” Alia replied and made him look into her eyes. He couldn’t hide anything from her, he had to tell her the truth but he knew this was going to change the course of their entire lives.
“Ok, there is something I have to tell you.” Ankit replied with a lump on his throat.
“I am listening.” Alia replied, eager to listen what will come next from Ankit.
“We have to stop seeing each other.” Ankit said and looked away…
